🎵 About the Artist

Europe was formed in 1979 in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, by vocalist Joey Tempest and guitarist John Norum. Originally performing under the name Force, the band gained early recognition after winning a Swedish rock competition, which led to a recording contract and the adoption of the name Europe.

Their self-titled debut album Europe was released in 1983 and showcased a melodic hard rock sound influenced by classic rock and early heavy metal. This was followed by Wings of Tomorrow, which helped establish the band’s identity and introduced a more polished and confident approach to songwriting.

Europe’s defining moment came in 1986 with the release of The Final Countdown. The album’s title track became one of the most iconic rock songs of all time, driven by its instantly recognizable synthesizer riff and triumphant chorus. The song topped charts in multiple countries and turned Europe into international superstars almost overnight.

Following this success, the band released Out of This World and Prisoners in Paradise, continuing to refine their melodic rock sound. Songs like “Rock the Night,” “Carrie,” and “Superstitious” demonstrated Europe’s ability to balance hard rock power with emotional ballads and radio-friendly hooks. Their music dominated rock radio and MTV throughout the late 1980s.

In the early 1990s, changing musical trends led the band to take a hiatus. However, Europe reunited in the early 2000s with a renewed creative vision. Their later albums embraced a heavier, more classic rock-inspired sound, earning respect from both longtime fans and new listeners. This reinvention highlighted the band’s musicianship and songwriting maturity.

Europe’s cultural impact remains strong decades after their debut. Their songs continue to be featured in films, sports events, commercials, and live performances around the world. The band is widely regarded as one of the most successful European rock exports in music history.
